Sung Yu Ri is a South Korean singer and actress. She was born in Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg, in what was then West Germany, where her father — Sung Jong Hyun, a professor of theology at the Presbyterian College and Theological Seminary — was studying at the time. The family returned to South Korea when she was four, and she grew up in Gangdong District, Seoul.
A producer heard her singing in the choir of the church her father pastored and pressed her to audition, and in 1998, while still a secondary school student, she debuted as the youngest member of Fin.K.L — "Fine Killing Liberty" — one of the original trio of legendary K-pop girl groups, alongside Lee Hyori, Ock Joo Hyun and Lee Jin.
Her acting debut came in 2002 with "Bad Girls", and in 2003 she took her first leading role in "Thousand Years of Love", learning to ride and to fight for the part of a Baekje princess who travels through time to present-day Korea. The romantic comedy "Prince's First Love" followed in 2004, a period in which her acting drew harsh criticism. She graduated from Kyung Hee University in February 2005 with a degree in theatre and film, and was given an award by her alma mater for the recognition she brought it.
After a brief return to music with Fin.K.L's digital single "Corealism" late in 2005, she decided to concentrate on acting alone. All of Fin.K.L's members left their agency DSP Entertainment, and she signed with SidusHQ in June 2005, moving to King Kong Entertainment in 2011 and to Fantagio when that contract expired in January 2014.
She married professional golfer Ahn Sung Hyun in a private ceremony in May 2017, and announced in July 2021 that she was expecting twins.
