NOTES & VARIETIES

It was filmed largely on location in Granada, Spain, around the Alhambra the title refers to.
Filming began on May 2, 2018 in Granada, Spain and finished on December 29 that year in South Korea. The Spanish shoot ran from late May into June across Andalucía and Catalonia — Granada, Madrid, Barcelona, Girona, and Terrassa for exteriors and studio work; from early August the production moved to Budapest and Mezőtúr in Hungary, and to Ljubljana in Slovenia.
The title alludes to Francisco Tárrega's classical guitar piece "Recuerdos de la Alhambra", which is itself part of the soundtrack.
It is one of the highest-rated dramas in the history of Korean cable television, and was praised for the invention of its plot and its twists.
Kim Eui Sung and Lee Seung Joon had worked together before on "Mr. Sunshine", and it is the second time Hyun Bin and Lee Seung Joon appeared together, after "Hyde, Jekyll, Me".
Touted as Korea's first augmented-reality gaming drama, it was said to have been inspired by the tech mogul Elon Musk and by "Pokémon Go".
The first script reading was held in May 2018. The script for the final episode was finished on December 19, 2018, and filming wrapped in South Korea on December 29. A preview screening was held at CGV theatres on November 28, before the first episode aired.
Netflix carried it in Asia and English-speaking territories an hour after each Korean broadcast; Japan from December 2, and Europe, South America and the rest of the world from December 11. In Thailand it aired on Channel 7.
It topped the cable ratings in its timeslot throughout its run, and drew praise for its computer graphics, cinematography and pace — the critic Jeong Seok Hee said it "has the potential to become one of the very best TV dramas we have seen in years". Later episodes drew criticism for a confusing, slow-moving plot and for heavy product placement.
It took the tvN timeslot previously held by "Room No. 9" and was followed by "Romance Is a Bonus Book" on January 26, 2019.
